A PAPA TESTING ON ALLAITEMENT

I had never thought about breastfeeding, and during my wife’s first pregnancy and until the day of delivery, I still didn’t think about it.

I had read in diagonal a few magazines and for me breastfeeding was summed up at one or two weeks, and for toddlers, and again, powder milk was so well designed that breastfeeding became almost superfluous.

So I had prepared the “birth list” prescribed by the maternity ward, including bottle and powdered milk, in short, I had completed my contract!

I think, above all, that as a young man, we cannot conceive breastfeeding until we have seen it.

We had friends who were breastfeeding but they had gone unnoticed in my eyes, I had no memory, I had not noticed them.

My conviction was that a mother would know better what it would be for my baby, and that my role was stopped on the physical side.

I talked about breastfeeding with my wife, but I didn’t know anything about it.
After the birth, I was present at the first breast-feeding: 25 midwives with different opinions ... not happy!

My wife and daughter finally found a breastfeeding position that suits them both, but they had to hide because the position did not appeal to hospital staff!

My mother constantly asked me to weigh our daughter before and after each summer to find out if she was eating enough, if she took weight, etc... what I never did, of course!

Despite the eyes of others, diseases (lymphangites), I never questioned breastfeeding. My wife had decided to breastfeed, so she would breastfeed. I think my role was to support her, help her and make her stand good during her moments of doubt.

In the evening, I was taking over with our baby. I settled naked in front of the TV and took my daughter against me for a big hug.

The link I could have with my daughter seems much stronger than a plastic bottle.

For our second child, the bibs went to the trash and for me there is no other way of feeding than breastfeeding for a baby, it is completely natural.

We never saw a cow giving a bottle to his calf!
